When sin entered the world, the ground was cursed and so came death. Man was separated from God and there was nothing man could do to permanently reconcile the broken relationship between man and God. But God made the way to reconcile us. He sent His Son, to save and redeem all those who will put their trust in Him. Christ's sacrifice was the only way and thus it fulfilled God's prophecy about God sending His Seed to provide for mankind's greatest need. The baby born in the city of David is Christ the Lord our Savior.
