"In mercy and truth atonement is provided for iniquity;  and by the fear of the Lord one departs from evil." - Proverbs 16:6

"And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not our only but also for the whole world." - 1 John 2:2

Based on the Jewish old testament law, animal sacrifice was required for the atonement of sins of the people. This was a temporary sacrifice and hence animal sacrifice was required almost everyday. But how long can one continue with animal sacrifice? God in His mercy created a permanent plan by sacrificing Himself for the sins of the world once and for all. Christ became the perfect Lamb to be sacrificed on the cross and by His blood we receive atonement for our sins.
Praise the Lord!
