French president Nicolas Sarkozy and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown have both hinted that former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, and now Middle East envoy for the United Nations, European Union, United States and Russia, would be a suitable candidate for the newly created role of "President of the European Union". Under the 'Treaty of Lisbon' document the 'EU President' role would be a  permanent two and a half year post starting in 2009 and could be extended to five years.
