Daniel 9 explains that the prince that will come (Antichrist), shall be of the people that would destroy Jerusalem. This happened in AD 70 under Titus. The EU is the revived Roman Empire, the fourth beast which is spoken of in Revelation/Daniel. The US will never be able to secure a peace deal in the Middle East.

Daniel 9:26-27
And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah (Christ) be cut off, but not for himself: and the people (Roman Empire) of the prince that shall come (Antichrist) shall destroy the city (Titus in AD 70) and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
And he (Antichrist, the prince of the people) shall confirm the covenant with many (nations) for one week (seven years):

He is also head and ears in the New World Order (Club of Rome, and has addressed the Council on Foreign Relations).

His parents are also Jewish, making him a good candidate for the Antichrist. Watch this space ;).

Daniel 11:37
Neither shall he (Antichrist) regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women (Messiah), nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all.

Matthew 24:7-8
For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. 

3 signs were fulfilled here in the following verse by the Asian Tsunami. Distress of nations. 
Note, many nations were involved, and certainly there was worldwide distress as we all learned of the disaster and loss of life.
With perplexity. 
Many witnesses who survived the tsunami described their perplexity as the sea seemed to just disappear, not realizing what was happening, before the wave struck. Many news reporters have also been interviewing people, asking them "Does this question your faith in God?". An Archbishop of the Church of England recently answered "Yes" to that very question. People are perplexed.
The sea and the waves roaring. 
I don't think any of us realized the significance of this verse before the 26th of December. 

Luke 21:25-26
And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

Scientists confirmed the earthquake actually caused the earth to wobble on its axis, and caused some islands in Indonesia to shift around 20 metres.

Isaiah 24:20 
The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.

Ironically, it's the Sanhedrin that first condemned Yeshua (Jesus) to death. 

Mark 15:1
And straightway in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate.

Perhaps then the Lord's words in John 5 are the more remarkable, when it seems this Sanhedrin will indeed accept Antichrist as the true Messiah...

John 5:43
I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name (Antichrist), him ye will receive.

Daniel 9:27
And he (Antichrist) shall confirm the covenant with many (nations) for one week (seven years): and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

2 Thessalonians 2:4
Who opposeth and exalteth himself (Antichrist) above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

Revelation 13:16-17
