"...O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will." - Matthew 26:39 "Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? 'Father, save Me from this hour'? But for this purpose I came to this hour. 'Father, glorify Your name.' " - John 12:27-28 What was the cause of Jesus' anguish in the garden of Gethsemane? There was a physical part of Jesus' suffering in which sinful men would inflict severe pain and suffering that Jesus' face was beyond recognition. But there is another great aspect of the aguish in Gethsemane and that is the separation of our Lord from the Father while He hung on the cross. The sin of the world was laid upon our Lord and as a result He was forsaken by Father while the Son bore our sin. Jesus paid for our sins and He went through the anguish and pain for us. He became sin for us who knew no sin. The perfect Son of God died on the cross so you and I can receive eternal life. Remember, the garden of Gethsemane and the agony of our Lord. It is the death of our Lord and His resurrection which gives us hope of eternal life in His holy presence Praise the Lord!
